GenAI Policy
.:: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) POLICY ::.
Jurnal Rekayasa Industri (JRI) is committed to upholding scientific integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and ethical responsibility throughout the publication lifecycle. The deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and AI-assisted technologies is governed by the following policy:
1. Author Guidelines on AI Usage and Disclosure
-
Disclosure Mandate: Authors must transparently declare any use of generative AI tools or AI-assisted services during manuscript development. This obligation applies to writing assistance, including language editing, grammar refinement, paraphrasing, translation, text summarization, or readability enhancement.
-
Placement of Disclosure: Declarations must be presented in a dedicated section titled:
Declaration of Generative AI Use in the Writing Process
This section must be positioned immediately following the Conclusion and prior to the References.
-
Required Details: Authors must name the specific AI software/service used, state its explicit role, and affirm that all AI-generated text has been thoroughly reviewed, verified, and refined by the author(s).
-
Authorship Restriction: AI tools cannot be designated as authors or co-authors. AI systems lack the legal standing to assume authorship responsibilities, sign copyright transfers, declare competing interests, or take accountability for published work.
-
Data Fabrication & Misconduct: Utilizing AI to falsify research data, analytical outputs, citations, visual images, or findings is strictly prohibited. Declaring AI usage does not exonerate authors from liability regarding errors, bias, plagiarism, intellectual property infringement, or ethical breaches.
Mandatory Author Declaration Statements
Submitted manuscripts must feature one of the following standardized declarations:
-
When Generative AI WAS Employed:
"The author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL/SERVICE] during the preparation of this manuscript to [SPECIFY PURPOSE, e.g., improve grammar, refine formatting, or translate text]. Subsequent to tool usage, the author(s) critically evaluated, verified, and edited all generated content. The author(s) accept full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of this manuscript."
-
When NO Generative AI WAS Employed:
"Nothing to disclose."
2. Editorial Limits on AI Usage
-
Permissible Scope: Editors may only employ AI-based tools for routine administrative pre-screening, such as preliminary layout checks, automated similarity/plagiarism detection, or conflict of interest screenings.
-
Human-Driven Decisions: AI systems must never serve as the sole or primary basis for editorial evaluations (rejection, revision, or acceptance). Final decisions rest exclusively on the professional judgment, authority, and scholarly discretion of the human Editorial Board and Handling Editors.
3. Prohibition of AI Usage by Peer Reviewers
-
Confidentiality Assurance: All submitted manuscripts and associated files are strictly confidential materials.
-
Upload Restriction: Reviewers are strictly forbidden from uploading manuscripts, excerpts, data points, figures, or supplementary files into public AI platforms or external generative tools for analysis or evaluation.
-
Authentic Peer Evaluation: Reviewers must not use AI tools to generate, draft, or compose peer review comments or evaluation reports. All feedback and recommendations must stem directly from the reviewer’s independent domain expertise, critical analysis, and academic judgment.
4. Overarching Human Accountability
Human oversight remains the foundational principle of JRI. Humans (Authors, Editors, and Reviewers) retain ultimate responsibility for guaranteeing the originality, confidentiality, precision, and scientific validity of all scholarly contributions published in Jurnal Rekayasa Industri (JRI).
