Abstract

News of legal marriages or unregistered marriages often becomes a polemic that results in unclear marital status, this has a negative impact on the parties involved, both wives, husbands and children. Where it is clearly regulated in the Compilation of Law Articles 5 and 6 that marriages must be registered before the Marriage Registrar (PPN) and registered with the KUA. Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage. Article 2 paragraph (2) states that: Every marriage is recorded according to the applicable laws and regulations. This is because marriages must be carried out in accordance with the applicable terms and pillars which are then ratified before the law through marriage registration. This study aims to identify and analyze the phenomenon of online unregistered marriages in Jakarta in particular and the various legal problems caused by the online practice of unregistered marriages and examines unregistered marriages by using unregistered marriage service providers spread through social media. The target to be achieved in this research is to provide ideas in the development of legal science, especially in the field of marriage law. Based on these conclusions, the authors suggest the need for public awareness to be able to understand that whatever the reason, the negative impacts of unregistered marriages outweigh the benefits. The issue of legal or unregistered marriages often becomes a polemic which results in the unclear marital status that occurs, this has a negative impact on the parties involved, both wives, husbands and children.
